The New York Yankees’ bats have been a bit lackluster as of late and the trend seemed to continue on Tuesday night during the American League playoff game against the Houston Astros. After a hard fought battle, the Yankees fell to the Astros after a dominant performance by lefty Dallas Keuchel and earned the 3-0 victory  to advance  to the American League Division Series against the Kansas City Royals.

In front of over 50,000 fans packed into Yankee Stadium, the Yankees sent ace RHP Masahiro Tanaka to the mound but his five inning outing last time happened yet again. Although Tanaka had a 1-2-3 first inning he struggled in the second allowing a first pitch, leadoff homerun to Colby Rasmus. In the third inning, the Astros’ Carlos Gomez hit a homer of his own on a fly ball to left center.

Keuchel held the Yankees to just three hits in six innings; striking out seven batters on just three days rest. The Astros’ bullpen as well as the Yankees bullpen were both lights out to keep the scoreboard blank the last few innings.

Houston’s third run came from a RBI single by Jose Altuve off of Yankees’ reliever Justin Wilson.

The Astros will now advance to the ALDS this Thursday against the Kansas City Royals.
