Alex Rodriguez Ties Mays With 660th Home Run

In dramatic fashion, with the Yankees and Red Sox tied at 2-2 at raucous Fenway Park, Alex Rodriguez pinch-hit for Garrett Jones in the top of the eighth inning and hit his 660th career home run, tying Willie Mays for fourth on the all-time list. He is now one home run away from taking sole possession of fourth place and only 54 home runs behind Babe Ruth‘s 714.
A-Rod is now batting .248. with eight home runs and 20 RBI’s so far on the season.
The blast also put the Yankees up 3-2, as they eventually held on to beat the Red Sox and give themselves breathing room in first place, with a 1.5 game lead ahead of the Tampa Bay Rays.
With the victory the Yanks improved to 14-9 as the Red Sox dropped to 12-11.
