Padres Trade Joaquin Benoit To Mariners

The San Diego Padres have made another move this offseason, trading RHP Joaquin Benoit to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for two minor leaguer’s in RHP Enyel De Los Santos and infielder Nelson Ward.
The 38-year-old Benoit will bring experience to the bullpen as a fourteen year veteran in the MLB. In his career he has held left-handed batters to a .214 average and a .223 average to all hitters.
This past season was no different, in 67 relief appearances he was 6-5 along with 2 saves and a 2.34 ERA but was also able to hold batters to a .159 batting average and the lowest average of all National League pitchers to opposing batters with a .144 for the season.
On the other side, the Padres will now receive Ward and De Los Santos in the deal. Ward is a twenty-three-year-old infielder who spent the 2015 season with Class A and then High-A. He had a combined average of .278 with nine homers and 55 RBIs.
De Los Santos is a nineteen-year-old who has just one year of professional baseball on his resume, spending the 2015 season with both the Rookie Level and Class A teams, where is sixteen starts he went 6-0 with a 3.47 ERA.
