Blue Jays Revving Up For Showdown With Yankees

When you look at the American League East standings, the Yankees seem to have a comfortable lead, but if you look just one spot down, you will notice that the Blue Jays are creeping ever so closely.

The Jays play the Yankees in six of their next nine games, with the first three starting this upcoming weekend in New York.

Winners of four straight games, the Jays made major moves prior to the Non-Waiver Trade Deadline bringing to the team shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, pitchers LaTroy Hawkins and David Price and speedster Ben Revere.

The new bats that were brought in boosts an already powerful lineup that already has sluggers Josh Donaldson (29 HRs, 80 RBI), Jose Bautista (24 HR, 75 RBIs) and Edwin Encarnacion (20 HR, 60 RBIs) in the middle of the pack.

The Yankees, who stood pat during the Trade Deadline, seemed at one point to be running away with the division, but the Jays are coming up in their rear view mirror very fast and when both teams clash in New York on Friday, it may be a fight the division.

On Wednesday, the Jays out-slugged the Twins as they held on to defeat Minnesota 9-7. With one game to go on Thursday, the Jays are looking for a sweep and an opportunity to gain another game on the Yankees who lost to the Red Sox on Wednesday 2-1.

Even if the Jays sweep the Yankees over the weekend, they wouldn’t take over the lead, as they trail by 4.5 games entering their Thursday game with the Twins. But with three more games with the Yankees next week, they could put themselves in a very good position.

On Friday night, the battle for the AL East Crown begins.
