Byron Buxton Continues Hot Streak With Walk-Off Homer

Byron Buxton, the Minnesota Twins top outfield prospect and #1 in the country, came into the 2015 season with much to prove and it wasn’t if he would hit, but if he would stay healthy long enough to showcase his talents.

The outfield prospect is batting .286, with three doubles, five triples, three home runs and 14 RBI’s. Currently he has an eight-game hitting streak and has hit safely in nine of his last ten, with six multi-hit games in that span.

On Monday, Buxton played in his 23rd game of the season, which is seven shy of his total in 2014, and with one swing of the bat he sent his Chattanooga teammates home with a well earned victory.

The bats were silent all game long as Jacksonville Suns starter Kendry Flores (1-3, 2.64) had total control of the game as he tossed eight scoreless innings, allowing only a hit, while walking one and striking out five. But after 84 pitches, Flores was removed from the game and the Suns brought in Casey McCarthy to start the bottom of the ninth. He quickly walked Carlos Paulino and after a sacrifice bunt, Paulino moved over to second and in scoring position. Buxton then launched a fly ball over the left field wall to walk-off the Suns and ruin Flores’ great outing.

The best part of the season so far is that Buxton is healthy and able to showcase his talents, and the hope that 2015 finally sees him making his major league debut.
