The St. Louis Cardinals clinched their third straight National League Central Championship on Wednesday night as they defeated the division rival Pittsburgh Pirates 11-1 and split the double header.

Not only did Wednesday night’s game secure division win for the Cards but they also earned win number 100 on the season for the fifth time in franchise history; something that they haven’t done since 2005.

In the first game of the day, although St. Louis was defeated 8-2 by Pittsburgh, the Cards welcomed Adam Wainwright back to the mound for the first time since April when he injured his Achilles and was expected to be out for the remainder of the season and perhaps even the start of 2016.

Wainwright made an appearance in the eighth inning out of the bullpen, throwing twelve strikes of the fifteen pitches he threw, striking out one. His appearance, although short was something that Cards fans were so eagerly awaiting.
