Over the last 21 seasons, the Carolina League and the California League partnered up to show off their best players in their respective leagues. The last time the All-Star game was in Salem was in 2006. The Carolina League All-Stars won the game, 6-3 in front of 5,133 fans.

According to reports, the top reason as to why the two respective leagues decided to split this year’s All-Star classic was travel expenses. This article from Baseball America goes into detail as to why the two leagues decided to split this year’s classic.
