Class A: Lansing’s Davis Fuels Victory With Slam, Eight RBI Game



The Lansing Lugnuts right fielder D.J. Davis had a career day, driving in eight runs after finishing the day 4 for 5, with two runs scored, a home run and two doubles.

The Blue Jays Class-A affiliate are in first place in the Midwest League Eastern Division at 34-24 and Davis’ offensive explosion helped fuel a 12-4 another victory over the Peoria Chiefs.

In the bottom of the third, with the Chiefs leading 3-2, Davis came up with the bases loaded and laced a double to right field scoring all three runs to put the Lugnuts up 5-3.

In the bottom of the fifth, Davis struck again, this time with a grand slam over the right center field fence to put Lansing up 9-3. The outfield prospect wasn’t done yet, as he hit his second double of the game in the bottom of the sixth, driving in his eighth RBI in the game.

The Lugnuts also received good pitching from their starter Shane Dawson (8-3), who tossed five innings, allowing two earned runs, on five hits, walking three and striking out six to earn his eighth win on the season.
