Class A: Sand Gnats Win Streak Stopped At 18 Straight By Rain

With what is to be their final season in Savannah, the Sand Gnats are going out with a bang.  The New York Mets Class-A Affiliate won their 18 straight game in the month of August before rain halted their second game on Sunday and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

Coming into the month, Savannah had won their last five games in July finishing the month at 17-11 and also are 22 wins in their last 23 games.

The Gnats won their division in the first half with a 39-31 record but now in the second half they are 36-17, overall at 75-48 with an 11 game lead over the second place Asheville Tourists.

In 2013 the Gnats took home the South Atlantic League Championship which was their first title in 17 years, and the 10th all-time. In 2014, they finished 85-51, winning the first half but were swept by the Tourists and unable to repeat.

Now in 2015, with the looming move to Columbia, South Carolina for the 2016 season and beyond, the Gnats are looking like a powerhouse again and gunning for their 11th title and leave Savannah with something to remember.

The team will escape Historic Grayson Stadium for a new state of the art facility, Spirit Communications Park in Columbia. One of the main reasons for the move was ownership felt with Grayson Stadium being one of the oldest in Minor League Baseball and no plans for building a new stadium, improving both player facilities and fan amenities, relocating the team became the best option.

But Savannah may have one more party to enjoy and it could be another championship to hang in the rafters.
