Class A Catcher Of The Week: Yermin Mercedes-Orioles

The 2016 success of catcher Yermin Mercedes has not gone unnoticed.
The twenty-three year old Baltimore Orioles’ catching prospect has had a standout season with the Delmarva Shorebirds of the South Atlantic League. He hit .343 in his last ten games with three homers and 7 RBIs and 12 hits in 35 at-bats. Mercedes was named to the Mid-Season All-Star team in the SAL this season and has earned SAL Player of the Week honors twice in 2016.
He has a season average of .353 with 60 RBIs and 14 homers which has led to his promotion to the Class-A Advanced Frederick Keys of the Carolina League this past Sunday.
On July 23, 2016 he had a career best night, going 4 for 4 with three homers and 4 RBIs.
He made his debut with the Keys on Monday night he went 0 for 3 with a walk but Mercedes won’t be down for long once he gets adjusted to his new surroundings.
