Double-A: RoughRiders Williams Perfect at 7 for 7 In Friday’s Twin-Bill

The Texas Rangers top prospect Nick Williams had one of the best days of his minor league career on Friday, finishing 7 for 7 in a double-header against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals.

“I went in the dugout and said to my teammates, ‘What is going on right now?,'” Williams shared with MLB.com

The Galveston, Texas native is actually 8 for 8,  spanning three games and overall in his last four games he is batting .625 (10 for 16), with five runs scored and a home run.

Williams was selected by the Rangers in the second round (93rd overall) of the 2012 1st year player draft. So far this season with Frisco, he is batting .295, with nine home runs and 35 RBI.

In Friday’s first game, the outfield prospect was 3 for 3, with two runs scored in the RoughRiders 6-2 victory. He led off the game with a single to center field, and scored on a single by Ryan Cordell.

In the top of the second, Williams hit a two out single but the runner, Patrick Cantwell, was out at third after being hit by the batted ball.

In the fifth, he hit his third single of the game on a bunt to the pitcher and then scored ahead of Luis Marte‘s three run shot. He was then hit by a pitch in the sixth in his last at bat.

In Game two, Williams led off with a line drive single to center to start the game. In his second at bat, the RoughRiders left fielder singled on another line drive to right field, but was caught trying to steal second base to end the inning.

In the top of the fifth, Williams hit his third single of the game on a ground ball to shortstop and hit his ninth home run of the season in his last at bat to put Frisco up 5-0 and help secure the two game sweep.
