The annual Southern League All-Star Game took place on Tuesday evening at Trustmark Park, home of the Mississippi Braves. This game featured some of the best Double-A players in baseball with the Southern League North Division facing off against the Southern League South Division.

Mobile Bears’ LHP Anthony Banda (Diamondbacks) took the start for the South against Montgomery Biscuits’ RHP Chin-Wei Hu (Rays).

The scoreboard stayed blank on both sides until the bottom of the fifth when the South Squad took a commanding lead. With Cubs’ prospect RHP Brad Markey on the hill for the north, consecutive singles by Ildemaro Vargas, Brett Phillips and 2015 1st over all draft pick Dansby Swanson, loaded the bases. Brandon Dixon then singled on a ground ball to third, sending Vargas home, loading the bases once again and putting the South on the board first 1-0. Reds’ prospect Phillip Ervin then entered the game as a pinch-hitter and that was by far the best decision the South Division could have made, Ervin hit a Grand Slam on a fly ball to left center field to clear the bases for a dominating five run inning.

The Southern League North Division was unable to get any kind of rally together as they fell to the South a complete turn around of the outcome in the 2015 Southern League All-Star Game when the North Division took a dominating 9-0 win.

With his game leading grand slam, Phillip Ervin was named the MVP of the Southern League All-Star Game.
