Legends On Deck

ESPN Goes Bananas!

Congratulations to our friends at the Savannah Bananas!  Tonight, ESPN2 is airing a live broadcast a “Banana Ball” game at Grayson Stadium.  The game will be followed by the first episode of a new docuseries called “Bananaland.”  The five-part series is available in it’s entirety on the ESPN+ streaming service.

Legends on Deck has been following the most interesting franchise in sports for a while now.  Last summer, I had a wide ranging interview with Jesse Cole, the owner and ringleader of the Bananas.  Cole’s personal story along with his vision for the Bananas brand is revolutionary in the world of sports.  Following our conversation, my son and I paid a visit to Grayson Stadium to see the show for ourselves.  As Jesse Cole described it “you’re going to show up to a circus and a baseball game might break out.”

This July, David Conde and I sat down with the Banana’s Head Coach Tyler Gillum for an episode of the Legends on Deck Podcast.  We talked what it’s like to make the transition from junior college ball to the Bananas during the summer.  Gillum has recently led his team to back to back Coastal Plain League Championships.

Check out our coverage of the Bananas at Legends on Deck and tune in to the ESPN networks to learn more about how the Savannah’s baseball team is driving the sports world bananas!
