The heart of the Miami Marlins’ pitching rotation, RHP Jose Fernandez was put back on the DL Tuesday just a little over a month and a half after starting his 2015 season after undergoing Tommy John Surgery last year.
The twenty three year old isn’t suffering from an elbow injury this time however, it’s a strain of the right biceps that will make him sit for the time being. The Marlins are encouraged that the injury didn’t cause any structural damage which increases the return of Fernandez before the end of the season.
The Marlins’ Ace left Friday night’s game against the Atlanta Braves in Turner Field after five innings of work in which he allowed two runs.
Since his return to the Majors on July 2, Fernandez has gone 4-0 in seven starts with an ERA of 2.30, showing Marlins’ fans that he was back and better than ever.
In a corresponding move by putting Fernandez on the DL, the Miami Marlins then recalled LHP, Justin Nicolino from Triple-A New Orleans. Considered the Marlins’ third best prospect, Nicolino is currently 7-7 on the season in twenty starts in New Orleans, he has made two Major League starts where he is 1-1.
