Fresno Grizzlies’ Bats Are Scorching Hot

The Houston Astros are not just tearing through the division in the American League West, their Triple-A Affiliate Fresno Grizzlies are also in first place in their division in large part due to their hot bats.

One of the big stories for the farm this season has been the amazing start for top prospect Carlos Correa‘s that prompted the Astros to promote him to Triple-A after just 29 games with Double-A Corpus Christi Hooks.

But Correa isn’t the only great thing happening in Fresno, it’s just about the whole line-up that is tearing through opposing pitchers.

On Tuesday, the Grizzlies defeated the El Paso Chihuahuas 12-2, on 19 hits and only two players failed to record a hit.  Actually everyone in the line-up that recorded a hit, had no less than two, and the top three each had a home run, including Correa’s first in Triple-A.

Fresno has a potent line-up and that is evident especially when you can have Correa batting in the two hole.

In his last eight games with Fresno, he has hit safely in seven of them and is batting .315 (12 for 38), with 10 runs scored, a home run, four RBI, three walks and two stolen bases.

In the three hole, sits L.J. Hoes, who has hot safely in nine of his last ten games and in that span he is batting .385 (15 for 39), with 13 runs scored, two home runs, eight RBI, seven walks, and four stolen bases. But it gets even better.

In the fourth spot the Grizzlies have Domingo Santana, who currently has a 15-game hitting streak and in his last 10 games, he is batting .432 (16-37), with 12 runs scored, three home ruins, 10 RBI, and 11 walks. And right behind Santana is Jon Singleton, who leads the league with 12 home runs, and set the franchise record on May 13 with 10 RBI in one game.

In his last 10 games Singleton has hit safely in eight and in that span he has record two four hit games and is also batting .410 (16 for 39), with 12 runs, five home runs, 24 RBI, nine walks and two stolen bases.

And rounding out the line-up in the sixth hole is Matt Duffy, who has hit in eight of his last ten game, is batting .295 (13 for 44), with four runs scored, two home runs, 12 RBI and a walk.

Two other players that have stood out for the Grizzlies are Alex Presley, who did not play in Tuesdays game, but has hit safely in nine of his last ten games and in that span is batting .400 (16 for 40), with seven runs scored and six RBI.  Also Matt Dominguez who finished 5 for 5, with two runs scored, a home run and RBI in Tuesday’s blowout of the Chihuahuas.

The Astros are doing well, but if they need any reinforcements, they have more than enough offense in Triple-A waiting for their turn to shine.

Now the only reason why Fresno (22-17)  has not run away with their division is because the pitching staff hasn’t always  been as spectacular as the offense. But if that changes this team can be unstoppable.

Houston is set up for years to come and that is a good sign for an organization that deserves to finally have winning seasons.
