FSL: Fort Myers Defeats Bradenton 2-1, Inch Closer To First

After the first 10 games they were 2-8, even though they played in some close games.  But there luck would change after a 5-0 victory over the Daytona Tortugas on April 16th. Since then they are 8-3 and only 1.5 games out of first place.

On Thuesday night, they face the defending FSL champs the Bradenton Marauders, who have been on a tailspin after starting the season 9-3. Since then they are 2-7, and still only .5 game out of first in second behind the Palm Beach Cardinals (11-9).

The Miracle sent RHP David Fisher to the mound, who entered the game 2-0, with a 0.60 ERA, and 20 strikouts in 15 innings spanning three starts. On Thursday he lasted four innings, allowing one run on four hits, with three walks and five strikeouts.

As for the Marauders, RHP Gage Hinsz took the ball and tossed six innings, allowing a run on five hits, two walks and three strikeouts.

Bradenton took an early 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the second when Logan Hill scored ahead of a Ke’Bryan Hayes RBI double.

The Miracle answered back in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single from Brian Navarreto, scoring Rafael P. Valera to tie the game at 1-1.

In the bottom of the seventh, Fort Myers took the lead for good, highlighted by a game winning RBI single off the bat of Casey Scoggins, scoring Navarreto.

Anthoiny McIver came on in the eighth and picthed two innings, allowing two hits, no runs, a walk and two strikouits to earn the save. Sam Clay relieved Fisher, and tossed three innings of his own, allowing one hit, no runs, and three strikeouts to earn the win.

The Miracle improved to 10-11, while the Marauders dropped to 11-10.
