Game 5 Preview: New York Mets At LA Dodgers
- Updated: October 15, 2015
The New York Mets won Game 1 and 3 and had a chance to close the NLDS at home on Tuesday night but came up short. They will now have to travel cross country for Game 5 against the LA Dodgers, to decide who will face the Chicago Cubs in the NLCS. Game 5 will take place at 8:00 pm on TBS.
The Matchup:
RHP Jacob deGrom will make his second career postseason start on Thursday night, his fourth against the Dodgers. The Mets considered using deGrom out of the bullpen in Game 4, but decided against it so that they could save their Ace for a “Winner Takes All” Game 5 that looked inevitable. In his first start in Game 1, deGrom was nearly flawless as he went seven innings of shutout baseball striking out an impressive 13 batters, tying the Mets’ postseason record for strikeouts in a single game; his career ERA against the Dodgers is 3.66. deGrom will also help make history again as he and the Mets enter uncharted territory, having never played a Game 5 Divisional Series match-up.
The Dodgers will send RHP Zack Greinke to start the ever so important Game 5, as he started Game 2 allowing just two runs by the Mets. Greinke led the league in ERA this season with a low 1.66 in thirty-two starts, thirty of them quality starts, and has gone at least six innings in each of those, which led him to a 19-3 record in the regular season. This season the Mets have just a combined .160 batting average against Greinke.
