Game Of The Week: Yoan Moncada Homers In Third Straight Game
- Updated: July 15, 2015
The Boston Red Sox may be struggling the last two seasons, but it seems that signing the young Cuban player Yoan Moncada for over $30 million in the off-season may end up being worth every cent as the team looks toward the future.
The 20 year old second baseman who is currently with the Class A Advanced Greenville Drive, batting .272 on the season along with four homers and 20 RBIs has seen an increase in his performance at the plate since being moved from the sixth spot in the lineup to the leadoff spot; from .198 up to .358.
He has had at least one hit in eight of the last ten games and has a .415 in that ten game span. The six foot 2 infielder has gone yard in the last three games which includes an inside the park homer on Wednesday. His base running skills are also top of the list as he has six stolen bases in ten games, totaling fifteen on the season which includes two on July 7th.
While this is Moncada’s first season in professional baseball in the United States he seems to have found his spot both offensively and defensively in the organization and will be seeing Fenway sooner rather than later if he stays at this pace.
