The San Francisco Giants (20-18) and the Cincinnati Reds (18-20) faced off for the fourth game of their four game series at Great American Ball Park, with the Giants edging the Reds 9-8 to win the series.

The Giants Chris Heston and the Reds Anthony DeSclafani didn’t fare well in the game as Heston failed to last more than two innings and DeSclafani only lasted three.

After a scoreless first inning, the Giants added four runs in the top of the second, after an RBI single by Brandon Crawford plating Brandon Belt. Gregor Blanco doubled scoring Hunter Pence from second and then scores himself along with Crawford after a single by Nori Aoki.

In the bottom the inning the Reds got one back on a ground out by Billy Hamilton scoring Brandon Phillips to bring the Reds within 4-1.

The Giants added two more runs in the top of the third on Pence’s first home run of the season, also plating Belt to make the score 6-1.

In the bottom of the third, the Reds bats came alive as they scored four runs to make the score 6-5. Brayan Pena scored on a single by Marlon Byrd and with the bases loaded, Phillips was hit by a pitch scoring Joey Votto from third.

In the fifth, seventh and eight, both teams would trade runs each scoring a run, but the Reds would come up short and fail to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth. In the bottom of the ninth Santiago Casilla struck out the side to secure the victory and earn his ninth save on the season.
