Game Of The Week Recap: Red Sox 5, Astros 4

The Boston Red Sox (39-45) and the Houston Astros (48-36) squared off on Sunday afternoon in the rubber match of their three game series, and the Red Sox would take the final game 5-4.

Each team featured a promising young starting pitcher in today’s game. The Astros sent out 21-year old Lance McCullers, while the Red Sox countered with southpaw 22-year old Eduardo Rodriguez. Both pitchers pitched well, despite either going very deep into the game, and it would be decided by the bullpens.

The Sox jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when Ryan Hanigan singled in Pablo Sandoval.

The Astros would equalize in the fourth on a Jake Marisnick single, scoring Luis Valbuena.

In the bottom of the sixth the Red Sox would take their second lead of the game when Sandoval doubled in Hanley Ramirez. Hanigan would again bring around Sandoval on his second RBI single of the day, and the Sox led 3-1.

However, the Astros would fire back in the top of the 7th, as budding superstar Carlos Correa would launch his 7th homerun of the season, scoring Jose Altuve to tie the game at three runs each. Houston would take the lead on Evan Gattis‘ 14th longball of the year, making it 4-3.

Boston rallyed right back in the bottom half of the seventh, and would go ahead for good when Ramirez took reliever Tony Sipp deep with a man on for his 18th HR of the campaign.

Closer Koji Uehara would earn the save with a flawless ninth inning that saw him strike out a pair of Astros.
