Game Of The Week: Twins Miguel Sano On A Tear

On July 2, the Twins top prospect Miguel Sano made his major league debut and since he has been on a tear.

According to MLB Network, the Twins were looking for added offense when they thought about bringing up Sano; so they received exactly what they wanted.

In his first game, the 22-year old rookie lined out to center field in his first at bat. Then after striking out his next two at bats, he hit a single for his first major league hit.

In the following game, he singled, doubled, scored and drove in a run, finishing 2 for 4. From that point on he has continued to hit, and has done it safely in his first six games in the majors, including his first major league home run on Tuesday.  He is currently batting .450 (9-20), with a home run and five RBI.

The Dominican Republic native has been with the Twins organization since the 2010 season.  In 2011, he enjoyed a breakout season in Rookie ball hitting .292, with 20 home runs and 59 RBI. The following season he was moved up to Class-A and batted .258, with 28 home runs, drove in 100 RBI and walked 80 times.

In 2013, Sano shared time between Class-A Advanced and Double-A and combined he batted .280, with 30 double, 35 home runs, 103 RBI and 65 walks.

But the rookie would miss the entire 2014 season as he underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow. He found himself back on the field to start the 2015 season with Triple-A Chattanooga and in 66 games, he batted .274, with 18 doubles, 15 home runs and 48 RBI.

Now he is in the majors where he belongs, and it may have been a year too late, but he doesn’t seem to have missed a beat.

Another top prospect making his mark on an exciting 2015 season.
