Game of the Week: Venue Change for Series

It was announced that the series this weekend between the Orioles and the Rays has been moved from Baltimore to Tampa, due to the unrest in the area.  It that isn’t enough to throw things off a bit, the Orioles have had to postpone games against the Chicago White Sox on Monday and Tuesday for the same reason.  They are playing on Wednesday, weather permitting, but the game is not open to the public.

Even though the series this weekend will be in Tampa, Baltimore will play the role of the home team.  The Orioles don’t return home after Wednesday’s game until May 11th when they play host to divisional foe Toronto Blue Jays.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred released a statement regarding what is taking place in Baltimore:

“After conversations with the Orioles and local officials, we believe that these decisions are in the best interest of fan safety and the deployment of city resources.  Our thoughts are with all those who have been affected by violence in Baltimore, and everyone in our game hopes for peace and safety of a great American city”

When it is all said and done, the game still needs to be played.  The Orioles website mentions that any fans that have tickets to any of the games scheduled from Wednesday to Sunday can exchange them for any remaining home game.

This is a tough situation for the Orioles players to be in.  They can either play with their minds on other things or play inspired for their entire city.  It remains to be seen how they will fare when they are back in action.
