Game Of The Week: Angels Outlast Mariners, Take First Game 7-6

A four run lead wasn’t enough for the Mariners last night as they dropped the first game of a three game set to the last place Angels in Seattle.

The Halos took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on Daniel Nava‘s RBI single that scored Mike Trout.

Seattle would answer immediately in the bottom of the inning when centerfielder Leonys Martin plated Seth Smith with a sacrifice fly.

The M’s would go ahead in the 5th on a home run by Nelson Cruz, his seventh longball of the year. They would add to their lead the next inning when they scored three runs on a bases loaded triple by shortstop Ketel Marte, putting the home team up 5-1.

However the Angels would come back, scoring two runs in each of the last three innings, highlighted by a C.J. Cron home run and RBI doubles by Mike Trout and Jefry Marte.

The Mariners would add a run via a homerun off the bat of Chris Iannetta, but it wouldn’t be enough.

Fernando Salas shut the door in the ninth inning, earning himself his first save of the season in a 7-6 win for the Angels.

The Mariners will look to even things up tonight at 9:10 PM ET as Hisashi Iwakuma (1-4, 4.19 ERA) takes the mound for Seattle against newly acquired Angels starter Jhoulys Chacin (1-2, 5.40 ERA).
