Game Of The Week: Astros’ Alex Bregman Continues Power Surge In Corpus Christi

As the “Game of the Week” feature rolls in to Texas for the matchup of the in-state rivals, it seems that there is another team in the state that is also seeing some high-profile baseball being played.

The Corpus Christi Hooks, the Double-A Affiliate of the Houston Astros has hosted some of the club’s best prospects in the game and this season is no different with shortstop Alex Bregman.

Bregman is currently hitting .330 and an on-base percentage of .435 with Double-A Corpus Christi showing that he has power at the plate no matter which level he has reach so far in his pro ball journey. He has nine homers; four of which were hit in the last ten games,  which a few have accounted for the go-ahead runs in the team’s wins and 26 RBIs in twenty-six games so far this season.

He did suffer a hamstring injury early on in this season which caused him to miss two weeks of play but, it doesn’t seem to have hindered him in any way. Ironically, that injury occured the same week that he earned “Player of the Week” honors in the Texas League.

The twenty-two year was drafted in the first round-second overall in the MLB Draft by Houston while playing at Louisiana State University. He was immediately assigned to the Class-A Quad Cities River Bandits where he spent twenty-nine games, hitting .259 with a homer and 13 RBIs and five stolen bases. At the end of July he was promoted to the Class-A Advanced Lancaster JetHawks. He finished the season in Lancaster and in thirty-seven games, hit .319/.364/.475 with three homers and 21 RBIs and eight stolen bases.
