Game of the Week: Brewers v. Cardinals July 1 – 7:15 PM CT

The Milwaukee Brewers and the St. Louis Cardinals are both in the same boat in 2016, as they are chasing the Chicago Cubs, who continue to be the best team in baseball with the best record in the majors.

Even with the Cubs dominating the NL Central division, the Cardinals, even at 11 games out, remain in the playoff hunt as they are only a game out of the Wild Card spots.

As for the Brewers, they are in fourth place in the division and 16 game out of first, but they too are in the playoff hunt being just six games out of the Wild Card spots.

Both teams may not catch the Cubs in 2016, but this weekend they will battle it out to make up some ground in the standing. So far in 2016, they have played a total of six games with the Cardinals holding a 4-2 edge.

St. Louis is coming off a 4-game series with the Kansas City Royals where they lost 3 of 4 games, and the Brewers played the Los Angeles Dodgers and lost two out of the three games played.

The teams will play Friday’s game at Busch Stadium, with first pitch scheduled for 7:15 PM CT.

Friday’s Starters

Brewers will send RHP Matt Garza (1-0, 2.81 ERA) to the mound against Cardinals LHP Jaime Garcia (5-6, 4.09).

Garza will be pitching in only his fourth start since coming off the 60 day disabled list with a Right lat strain. In his last start he threw six innings, giving up four runs on seven hits, with three walks and one strike out.

Garcia is coming off a game against the Seattle Mariners where he earned a no decision after tossing 5.2 innings, allowing five runs, on 10 hits, with two walks and six strikeouts.
