Game Of The Week: Cubs Homer Their Way To 8-6 Win Over Nats


The Chicago Cubs are on a hot streak and they don’t seem to be cooling off anytime soon.

In the second game of the four game set between the Cubs and the Washingtion Nationals at Wrigley Field on Friday afternoon, homers were the way to go.

The Nationals were the first on the board with a solo homerun by Anthony Rendon on a fly ball to left fenter off of Chicago’s John Lackey.

In the top of the second, the Nats extended their lead to 2-0 with a RBI single by starting pitcher Max Scherzer.

In the bottom of the second, the Cubs Tommy La Stella helped to tie the game with a two run homerun on a fly ball to right off of Scherzer.

Th Cubs did get to Scherzer in the third inning with a solo homerun by Anthony Rizzo, his tenth of the season for a 3-2 ballgame. Ben Zobrist then hit his fourth homerun of the season on a fly ball to right to give Chicago a two run advantage.

Zobrist was at it again in the top of the fifth, this time with a three run homer off of Scherzer for a 7-2 ballgame.

Scherzer worked five innings for the Nats allowing seven runs on seven hits;walking three and striking out seven

Lackey went seven innings allowing two runs on six hits; striking out an impressive eleven batters.

Dexter Fowler tacked on another run in the sixth inning with a RBI single for a 8-2 ballgame.

In the top of the eighth, the Cubs were able to get a little bit of a rally going as first  with a two run double by Jason Werth for a 8-4 ballgame.Wilson Ramos then hit a two run for the final 8-6 ballgame.

Lackey was earned the win (4-1) as Lackey was charged with the loss 3-2.
