The weekend series between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Philadelphia Phillies had one thing on the line,if the Bucs would be able to stay within Wild Card contention.

With the Phillies heading in the opposite direction, the Pirates are only two games out of the Wild Card spot and after defeating the Phillies 5-4 in the Rubber match on Sunday to take the series, they also find themselves just a game behind the St. Louis Cardinals for second place in the NL Central division.

In the game the Phillies jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first on a two-out home run off the bat of Andres Blanco.

The Pirates tied and took the lead in the bottom of the second on an RBI ground out from Elias Diaz and a run scoring double from Sean Rodriguez.

Philadelphia battled right back with two runs in the top of the third highlighted by an RBI triple from Cesar Hernandez.

Then in the top of the sixth, the Phillies extended their lead to 4-2 on a home run from Odubel Herrera, his 11th on the season.

The Pirates then used the long ball to their advantage with a two-run shot in the sixth from Matt Joyce to tie the game and the equalizer in the seventh from Adam Frazier to put the Bucs up for good at 5-4.

Mark Melancon closed out the game for his 30th save on the season.
