The San Francisco Giants and the Tampa Rays agreed on a trade that will send Giants #1 Prospect Christian Arroyo, along with Denard Span and pitching prospects Matt Krook (LHP), Stephen Woods (RHP) and cash for All-Star slugger Evan Longoria.

Longoria, who has been with the Rays since he debuted in 2008, batted .261 in 2017, with 36 doubles, two triples, 20 home runs and 86 RBIs in 156 games. The 3-time All-Star is the Rays franchise leader in games (1,435), home runs (261), runs scored (780), and totals bases (2,630).

Even though the Rays landed MLB ready player in Span, the center piece of the trade was landing top prospect Arroyo.

In 2017, Arroyo made his major league debut on April 24th and even though he had some spurts showing the fans what he is capable of he struggled overall batting just .196 in 125 at bats, with three home runs.

But prior to his promotion, he was tearing up Triple-A pitching as he hit safely in 15 of his first 17 games in April.

Then in an early June AAA game, he was hit by a pitch, fracturing his hand causing him to miss the remainder of the season.

Rays are hopeful he will become an impact player on the MLB roster in the near future.
