Legends On Deck’s Top 25 Prospects: No.’s 13-8

9. Noah Syndergaard, RHP

Team: Mets

Age: 22

Height: 6’6

Weight: 240

Bats/Throws: Left/Right

Syndergaard had an up and down season in the Pacific Coast League, which is a nightmare league for pitchers. In 26 starts in AAA, Noah managed a 4.60 ERA, but struck out an impressive 145 batters in 133 innings while walking 43.

Nicknamed “Thor” due to his Nordic background and massive frame, Syndergaard features a heavy, sinking fastball that comes in between 93-95 mph and touches 98. Hitters have a hard time elevating the pitch which frequently draws weak contact. His curveball has vastly improved over the last couple seasons, and some scouts grade it as a plus offering. His change is his third best offering, but has come along and features similar movement to his fastball, making it deceptive. Graded as a potential above-average pitch. He’s shown durability and his big, strong body should help that continue.

Outlook: Syndergaard has all the makings of a top of the rotation starter, as either a number one on a good team, or one of the best number two’s in the game.

Risk: Low. 133 innings in Triple-A and no serious injury concerns.
