Glasnow followed up an excellent 2013 with a simply dominant 2014. Pitching the entire season at High-A as a 20-year old, the right-hander tossed 124.1 innings to the tune of a 1.74 ERA over 23 starts. He struck out 157 would-be hitters and walked 57 while holding opponents to a .174 batting average against.
At 6’7, Glasnow uses his big frame to generate downward plane on his mid-90’s fastball, making it a tough pitch to square up. His upper-70’s curveball gives him two plus offerings, as the curve has developed into a bat missing pitch. The change is a work in progress, but shows potential plus promise, using Glasnow’s height and long body to create deception off of the fastball. Scouts say his delivery could use work, or more precisely, consistency, as he tends to lose his release points.
Outlook: The 2011 5th rounder has top shelf stuff, and has the potential to be a solid number two starter if he can learn to control his huge frame.
Risk: Medium. Stuff will play, but reaching his true ability is reliant on consistency in delivery. Needs to face tougher competition.
ETA: 2016
