Legends On Deck’s Top 25 Prospects: No.’s 19-14

15. Hunter Harvey, RHP

Team: Orioles

Age: 20

Height: 6’3

Weight: 175

Bats/Throws: Right/Right

Harvey was enjoying a successful year in the Low-A Sally League before a shoulder strain cut his season short. Before that unfortunate injury, the right-hander had started 17 games and pitched 87.2 innings for Delmarva. He posted a 3.18 ERA, amassed 106 strikeouts, walked just 33 and allowed only 66 hits on the season.

Hunter, who is the son of former closer Bryan Harvey, has a baseball bloodline which likely explains his advanced feel and polish on the mound. His fastball tends to sit in the low to mid 90’s with cutting action, but he can run it up to 97 when needed. The former first round selection also throws a wicked curveball, a high 70’s offering with excellent movement that misses bats with consistency. His changeup also flashes plus potential. The big issue with Hunter, which may have led to his injury, is his delivery. Scouts say it’s very inconsistent, losing both his landing spot and release points at times.

Outlook: The sutff, mental approach and frame all scream top of the rotation stud. Hopefully he can work to get his delivery in line.

Risk: High. Lack of innings on the mound, delivery and injury issues.
