Legends On Decks’ Top 25 Prospects: No.’s 7-2

4. Addison Russell, SS

Team: Cubs

Age: 20

Height: 6’0

Weight: 195

Bats/Throws: Right/Right

Russell missed a large chunk of the first half of 2014 with hamstring issues. Upon return he hit .295 with a .350 OBP. He hit 13 homers and notched 11 doubles in 68 games playing mostly in AA– although it was for two different organizations as he was sent from Oakland to the Cubs in the Jeff Samardzija deal.

The Florida native lacks any really eye-opening tools, but he’s extremely solid across the board with plenty of 6’s on his scouting report. He’s a good hitter with very good bat speed with real barrel-finding ability which helps him use the entire field effectively. Russell should also develop solid power and could top 20 longballs in his prime. He has solid-average speed. He’ll stick at short defensively, sporting solid range, hands and a good arm.

Outlook: Russell should be an All-Star contributor in his prime, hitting in the top third of the batting order and putting up numbers across the board.

Risk: Medium. Needs full, healthy season at upper level.

ETA: 2015
