Legends On Decks’ Top 25 Prospects: No.’s 7-2

3. Byron Buxton, CF

Team: Twins

Age: 21

Height: 6’2

Weight: 190

Bats/Throws: Right/Right

Last years near-consensus number one prospect had his path to the majors derailed by a plethora of odd injuries in 2014– many relating to his hands/wrists which is concerning. For the season he hit just .240 with four home runs and six stolen bases in only 31 games.

Buxton is a true five-tool player and you won’t find a sexier scouting report as it’s littered with 7’s and 8’s. He has a short, compact swing that’s conducive to contact with surprising pop. Scouts think he can develop 25+ home run power at his peak. He also sports 80 speed on the basepaths. Defensively he makes good reads and uses his speed to cover ground.

Outlook: Buxton could start off as a lethal leadoff hitter, but eventually turn into a complete threat who could hit third in any batting order. He could also win some Gold Gloves along the way. If he’s injury free in 2015 he could easily be the best prospect in the game.

Risk: Medium. Health concerns are the only thing stopping him.

ETA: 2016
