Legends On Decks’ Top 25 Prospects: No.’s 7-2

2. Carlos Correa, SS

Team: Astros

Age: 20

Height: 6’4

Weight: 205

Bats/Throws: Right/Right

Correa was on his way to a breakout season before he fractured his fibula in a freak play while sliding into third base. Before that he had hit .325 with six home runs, 16 doubles, and 20 stolen bases in 62 games in High-A.

The Puerto Rico Baseball Academy product and former first overall pick is a monster of a prospect. His offensive skill set at the shortstop position harkens back to the days of Alex Rodriguez/Nomar Garciaparra/Derek Jeter where your shortstop could also be your best hitter. He’s an advanced hitter with a swing and approach that should lead to high averages and OBP’s. His most intriguing tool could be his power. While it hasn’t exactly shown up in games yet, at it’s peak he should top 30 homers annually. Defensively, Correa has soft range, solid range and a plus arm. Size may move him off the position, but has legitimate chance to stick at short.

Outlook: Correa has a chance to be special. A true shortstop who can also hit .300 with 30 HR makes for a perennial MVP candidate. Would top this list if not for injury and Bryant’s proximity to majors.

Risk: Medium. Injury is a minimal worry, but needs more playing time in upper levels.

ETA: 2016
