Latest Grapefruit League Team News:

  • Boston Red Sox have played seven games, but newcomer J.D. Martinez has yet to make an appearance in a game as his deal became finalized on Monday. Catcher Blake Swihart is 5 for 12, with three doubles, a home run and five RBIs, in his first three games, batting ..417.
  • New York Yankees Aaron Judge finally appeared in a game on Wednesday and went 0 for 2, and fellow slugger Giancarlo Stanton is 2 for 7, with a double, and three strikeouts in three games. Miguel Andujar is off to a quick start batting .400, with a double, two home runs and three RBIs.
  • Atlanta Braves top outfield prospect Ronald Acuna, has struggled in the early going of spring games as he is just 3 for 13 (.231), with four strikeouts in four games.
  • New York Mets are hoping that all the key parts to their roster remain healthy. Noah Syndergaard, aka Thor, who is coming off a season lost to injury, hit 100 MPH 11-times on the gun in two perfect innings. Hopefully he realizes that a breaking ball should be used just as much in his arsenal to save his arm. Matt harvey made his first start of the Spring on Wednesday and in two innings, he gave up two hits, one run, walked one and struck out two. Another starter coming off the DL, Steven Matz struggled in his first spring appearance and relief pitcher Anthony Swarzak injured his left calf covering first base, and plans to undergo an MRI for precautionary reasons. Yoenis Cespedes, Jacob deGrom, Juan Lagares and Jay Bruce are also dealing with minor injuries.
  • St. Louis Cardinals Luke Voit is batting .462 (6 for 13), with two doubles, four RBIs in five games. Yairo Munoz is already enjoying early success as he is batting .467 (7 for 15), with a double, two home runs and five RBIs.
  • Miami Marlins Scot Van Slyke, who spent the last six seasons with the Dodgers, is batting .500 (5 for 10), with two doubles, two home runs and seven RBIs so far this spring.
  • Houston Astros Max Stassi is 3 for 7, with two home runs and five RBI’s through four games.
  • Philadephia Phillies Scott Kingery has two home runs in nine at bats, batting .444.
