The Minnesota Twins may have found a diamond in the rough when they plucked Jimmy Kerrigan from the Frontier League in 2017.
Kerrigan started his collegiate career with Temple University but after two seasons the program was cut. He then transferred to Virginia Commonwealth University, but became a non drafted free agent after his senior year.
The Philadephia native then joined the River City Rascals of the Frontier League and in 62 games, spanning 250 at bats, he batted .328, with 17 doubles, two triples, 10 home runs and 47 RBIs.
On July 27, 2017, the Twins signed Kerrigan to a minor league contract, sending him to Cedar Rapids Kernals (Class-A Full Season) of the Midwest League and in 31 games, he batted .250, with four triples, five home runs and 20 RBIs.
This season, Kerrigan was promoted to the Fort Myers Miracle (Class-A Advanced) and so far all he has done is hit.
After going 0 for 3 on April 5th, Kerrigan has a six game hitting streak, with five multi-hit games in that span. He also, five runs scored, two home runs and eight RBI’s to go along with a slash line of .409/.480/.773.
Congrats to Jimmy Kerrigan for winning LOD’s first FSL Player of the Week award for 2018.
