Maddon And Banister Named Managers Of The Year

So far this offseason, Gold Gloves, Silver Sluggers, Rookies of The Year and many other honors have been handed out but where would any of these players be without their trusted leaders? On Tuesday night the Baseball Writers’ Association of America announced the Manager of the Year Awards for the 2015 MLB season.

Taking the honors for the American League was first year Manager of the Texas Rangers, Jeff Banister. Banister has 17 1st place votes over the Astros’ A.J. Hinch. In his rookie season as Manager, Banister led the Rangers to an American League West title just a season after coming in last in the division and improving their record by twenty-one games. He is the fifth Manager to win the honor in their first season of managing the club.

The Chicago Cubs’ Joe Maddon won his third Manager of the Year award, first as the leader of a National League team. is previous two were with the Tampa Bay Rays, he is the sixth Manager to have won with both the American and National Leagues. Maddon had a phenomenal season with the young Cubbies, leading them to the NLCS in his first season with the team.  Maddon received 18 first place votes over the St. Louis Cardinals’ Mike Matheny who received nine first place votes.
