Mason Williams Hits First Major League HR

Yankees-Gregorius-glove

New York Yankees’ center fielder and former top five prospect Mason Williams hit his first Major League homerun on Friday night against Ubaldo Jimenez and the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards.

In just his second at-bat and with an 0-1 count and Didi Gregorious on second, Williams hit a two run homer on a line drive to right center fielder.

In the sixth he was then replaced by pinch-hitter Chris Young as the Yankees fell to the Orioles 11-3.

Williams wasn’t the only Yankees’ prospect who appeared in Friday night’s matchup. Catcher John Ryan Murphy replaced Brian McCann in the bottom of the eighth and 22 year old lefty Jacob Lindgren pitched the remainder of the fifth in relief of Michael Pineda and the beginning of the sixth. Lindgren pitched two thirds of an inning with one hit and run allowed.

The New York Yankees will take on the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday evening at 7:15pm in the second game of the series, no word yet on whether fans will get another look at Mason Williams.
