MLB.com: D-Backs Adding Braves Shelby Miller To Rotation
- Updated: December 8, 2015
The Arizona Diamondbacks continue to strengthen their rotation as they acquire the Shelby Miller from the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday. In return the Braves get the #1 pick in the 2015 June Amateur draft in Dansby Swanson, along with fellow Minor Leaguer Aaron Blair and outfielder Ender Inciarte.
Miller, is entering his fifth big league season. He started his career with the St. Louis Cardinals and in 2013, he won 15 games and had a 3.06 ERA. The following season he finished 10-9, with a 3.74 ERA. In 2015, he started for the Braves and was 5-2 heading into June, but for the rest of the summer he was 1-15, at one point losing eight straight decisions.
But luck was not on his side as he kept his team in most of the games, tossing at least six innings and giving up an average of a little more than just two runs per game. On August 16, he almost threw a no-hitter against the D-Backs, but the no-no was broken up by shortstop Nick Ahmed with no outs in the eighth. Then in his final start of the season on October 4th, he tossed eight shutout innings, allowing just three hits, three walks and striking out seven to earn his first victory in over four months, spanning 24 starts.
Now he joins Zack Greinke and a team looking to contend for the postseason.
