The Rockies Chad Bettis finally returned to the mound on Tuesday night and he made it a night to remember, as he tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing six hits, no walks and struck out two batters. Even though Bettis received a no decision in the Rockies 3-0 victory, his presence on the mound was an even bigger win for himself, the Rockies and even for baseball. A great story of battling for life and the opportunity to continue playing the game he loves.
In the 1st inning, Braves Ender Inciarte tripled to open the game, but was left stranded as Atlanta’s offense failed to drive him in.
The Braves had other chances in the game to drive in a run against Bettis, but he was able to work his way in and out of the jams.
The right hander retired eight of the last nine batters he faced and left the game after seven innings with the game tied at 0-0.

The Colorado Rockies will face off against the Atlanta Braves and the game will have even more meaning than just staying in the hunt for the post season, because starter Chad Bettis will be making his 2017 debut after battling Testicular Cancer. Bettis underwent surgery back in November and this spring he had Chemotherapy after tests showed the disease had spread to his lymph nodes.
Bettis made his MLB debut on August 1, 2013 and in four seasons with the Rockies, he compiled a 23-19 record, with a 5.01 ERA and 279 strike outs in 370.1 innings. Actually 2016 was his best season in the majors as he finished 14-8 in 32 starts.
But on August 14th, Bettis will make the most important and probably the most memorable start of his career after battling for his life to return to the mound.
No matter the outcome of the game, Bettis is already victorious.
