MLB Player of the Week: RHP Seung Hwan Oh – Cardinals (April 17-23)

Continuing with our weekly honors, the past week spanning April 17-23, the St. Louis Cardinals closer Seung Hwan Oh, is our MLB Player of the Week.

Oh made his major league debut in 2016 and in 23 save opportunities, he converted 19. He also struck out 103 batters in 79.2 innings.

The South Korean born right hander started his professional career 2005 with the Samsung Lions of the Korean Baseball Organization. From 2005-2013, he saved 277 games, striking out 625 batters in 510.1 innings. Then from 2014-2015, he played with the Hanshin Tigers of the Japan Central League and in 136 innings, he struck out 147 batters and recorded 80 saves.

In his first four appearances of the 2017 seaosn, he failed to convert one save and appeared in relief in three others, raking up a 9.64 ERA.  But since April 17th, Oh has converted five straight save opportunities, allowing one earned run on seven hits, one walk and six strikeouts in five innings pitched.
