Nats Trade Top Prospects For OF Adam Eaton
- Updated: December 7, 2016
The moves kept on coming on Wednesday as the MLB Winter Meetings continued at National Harbor.
The Washington Nationals have been actively looking for an outifelder this offseason. Last season the Nats called up Trea Turner, who although played well at the Major League level, was forced to play outfield and not his natural shortstop position. Most recently it was reported that the Nats were interested in Pittsburgh Pirates’ outfielder Andrew McCutchen.
But, late Wednesday afternoon the Chicago White Sox traded OF Adam Eaton to the Nats in exchange for 3 of the team’s top five prospects. The prospects include RHP Lucas Giolito (#1), RHP Reynaldo Lopez (#3) and RHP Dane Dunning (#6).
At 28, Adam Eaton hit .284 in 2016 along with 14 homers and 59 RBIs.
Giolito is one of the top prospects in the nation and was discussed in trade talks last July. He divided his 2016 season with Double-A and Triple-A with 6-5 record and a 2.97 ERA.
Giolito and Lopez both made Major League appearances in 2016.
Dunning spent 2016 with Class A Short Season where he maintained a 2.14 ERA with a 3-2 record.
