NLDS: Dodgers Defeat D-Backs 3-1, Sweep Series
- Updated: October 10, 2017
The Los Angeles Dodgers took care of business very quickly in the NLDS, by sweeping the Arizona Diamondbacks in three games, and they now sit and wait the winner of The Chicago Cubs and Washington Nationals.
The Dodgers relied on solid pitching and timely hitting to win Game three as Yu Darvish tossed five innings, allowing two hits, one run, no walks and seven strikeouts. After giving up a one-out single in the first inning, Darvish retired the next 13 straight batters. He then gave up a solo home run to Daniel Descalso, for the only run he would allow in the game.
As for the Dodgers offense, it was not as explosive as previous games, as they scored nine in Game one and eight in Game two, but it was enough to earn the victory.
Cody Bellinger drove in a run in the first on a ground out, and then homered for his first home run in the series in the fifth making the score 2-0.
In the sixth, Austin Barnes added an insurance run with his own blast, extending the lead to 3-1.
After Darvish, Tony Cingrani, Brandon Morrow, Kenta Maeda and Kenley Jansen all combined to toss four shutout innings, allowing just one hit, no walks and four strikeouts.
