After rain postponed Game 2 a day later, the Washington Nationals and LA Dodgers jetted across the country in less than twenty-four hours for Monday’s matinée.

Although the Dodgers took an early lead, the Nationals homered their way back  and secured the win with a late rally for the 8-3 win and take a 2-1 series lead over the Dodgers.

Corey Seager hit a RBI double off of Nats’ starter Gio Gonzalez on a fly ball to right field to send home Justin Turner for LA’s 1-0 lead.

Kenta Maeda, who started for the Dodgers, cruised through two innings but faltered in the top of the third which started with a RBI double by Jayson Werth to send home Trea Turner to tie the game at one. Bryce Harper then gave the Nationals the lead with a RBI single on a line drive to right for the 2-1 lead. But, it was a two-run homer on a fly ball to right by Anthony Rendon for the 4-1 ballgame.

Maeda was then done for the day after three innings of work with four runs allowed on five hits; walking two and striking out four hitters.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Dodgers cut the deficit with a Carlos Ruiz pinch-hit two-run homer on a fly ball to left field for a 4-3 game.

That was enough for the Nats as they took Gonzalez out after four and one-third innings, allowing three runs on four hits; walking one and striking out four.

In the top of the ninth, Washington secured the win and the series’ advantage first with a solo homerun on a fly ball to left. It was then a two-run double by Ryan Zimmerman and a sac fly by Chris Heisey that brought in four more runs.
