Padres Extend Wil Myers, Avoid Arbitration With Three

The Padres announced Friday they have an extension deal in place with right handed slugger/first baseman Wil Myers, pending physical. Ken Rosenthal tweeted the deal would be six years, more than $80 million. He also adds the extension covers three years of Myers arbitration as well as his first three years of free agency. Myers batted .259 in 2016, hitting 28 home runs and 94 runs batted in. He will be free agent eligible when he turns 31.

Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union Tribune also tweeted the Friars have agreed to one year deals with Brandon Maurer ($1.9 million), Christian Friedrich, and Brad Hand. He notes Yangervis Solarte could be next.

Maurer, 26, finished 2016 with an 0-5 record, 4.52 ERA, 69.2 innings pitched, and 72 strikeouts. He also earned 13 saves throughout the season.
Christrian Friedrich, the 29 year old lefty ended 2016 5-12, 4.80 ERA, 129.1 innings pitched, 100 strikeouts.
Brad Hand, 26, led Major League Baseball with 82 game appearances in 2016, posting a 2.92 ERA, 89.1 innings pitched, and 111 strikeouts.
