Two minor league free agents, right handed pitchers Carlos Artiles and Felix Bautista were suspended without pay for 72 games for testing positive for metabolites of Nandrolone, a performance-enhancing substance, as reported by MiLB.com on Wednesday evening.
There were three other players that also received 50-game bans, Houston Astros pitching prospect Andrew Walter, San Diego Padres right-handed prospect Travis Remillard and minor league free agent, catcher Kyle Bacak, after they tested positive for Amphetamine.
This brings the total so far this year to nine prospects who have been suspended for violating the minor league drug program.
