As the 2015 regular season winds down, teams are making their plans for next season which will most importantly include the coaching staff. The Philadelphia Phillies have announced that interim manager Pete Mackanin will be the manager of the team, full-time in 2016.

The Phillies extended Mackanin’s contract to 2016 with an option for the 2017 season. The 64 year old has been the interim for Philadelphia since June 26 when Ryne Sandberg resigned.

Mackanin joined the Phillies’ organization in 2009 as the bench coach, a position he held for four seasons. Although he left the Phillies for a season he returned in 2014 as the third base coach, the position he had until he was named interim in late June.

Since taking over as Manager, Mackanin has led the Phillies to a 30-46 record which included a 21-12 record from July 17 until August 23.
