The Chicago Cubs are in first place and after Wednesday games, they own the second best record in baseball.
Part of their success has been the growth of their farm system and how their prospects have performed on the big stage.
As the winning continues in Chicago, another prospect is showcasing his skills in the minors, preparing to be another arm that can help the big club in seasons to come.
Preston Morrison, who is currently pitching with the Class-A (Full) South Bend Cubs, has been on a tremendous journey with four straight scoreless appearances.
The Waxhaw, North Carolina native has not given up a run in 28.1 straight innings, and in that stretch he is 4-0, with a 29 strikeouts.
Morrison was signed by the Cubs in the 8th round of the 2015 MLB June Amateur draft.
That season he started his pro career with the Class-A (Short) Eugene Emeralds and finished the year, 1-1, with a 0.81 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 22.1 innings. He started 4 of 9 games as opponents batted just .183 against him.
This season, he is currently 9-3, with a 2.44 ERA, and 73 strikeouts in 81 innings. Over his last ten games, he is 8-1, with a 1.49 ERA, and 53 strikeouts in 60.1 innings.
The 22-year-old right hander is in a great organization that prides themselves on their top ball players and even though he is yet to be considered a top prospect, in time his star will shine even brighter as he continues his journey to Wrigley Field.
