Rangers Gallardo Extends Streak to 23 Scoreless Innings

The Texas Rangers Yovani Gallardo extended his scoreless innings streak to 23 games after tossing 8.1 shutout innings in the Rangers 4-0 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays.

During the streak, the Rangers right hander is 2-0, with one no decision and lowered his ERA to 2.72. In his previous seven games he has not given up more than two runs, and for the season he has only given up four runs twice, which is the most on the season.

Gallardo helped tame a Blue Jays lineup that has been on a scoring tear especially with their 12-2 victory over the Rangers on Friday.

In the first, Gallardo walked Jose Bautista with two outs, but got Edwin Encarnacion to hit into an inning enidng double play. From that point, the Jays righty retired the next nine batters before giving up his first hit to Encarnacion in the bottom of the fourth. But Gallardo quickly struck out Dioner Navarro to halt any Jays rally.

Gallardo then retired the next 10 batters before Russell Martin walked in the bottom of the eighth, but was erased on a double play ground out off the bat of Chris Colabello.  Next batter Kevin Pillar singled on a line drive to center field, but Gallardo managed to get out of the inning by inducing a ground out off the bat of Devon Travis.

In the top of the ninth, Jose Reyes lined out to right field, and then Josh Donaldson hit a ground ball single to left filed, ending the day for Gallardo.

Unable to get bis first complete game of the season, but a masterful game it was, Gallardo tossed 8.1 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits, with two walks and four strikeouts for his seventh win on the season.
