It is has been confirmed that Stanton has waived his no-trade clause and agreed to be sent to New York in exchanged for second baseman Starlin Castro and two minor league prospects, pitcher Jorge Guzman and infielder Jose Devers. The Marlins will also put about $30 million into the deal with the Yankees taking on the rest of the contract, approximately $265 over the next 10 years.

Barring any set backs, the announcement of the deal should be made official once Stanton passes his physical.

Last week there was not much of anything going on in the baseball world but a few signings and rumors, but in just the last two days, the coveted two-way player Shohei Ohtani picked the LA Angels for his new American club and the New York Yankees and the Miami Marlins agreed on a blockbuster trade sending NL MVP Giancarlo Stanton to the Bronx.

Whoa!, is what most Yankees and Marlins fans are saying as they wake up this Saturday morning to the news of what their teams have agreed on.

Can you imagine seeing Stanton in a lineup that already boasts Gary Sanchez and the 2017 Rookie of the Year winner, Aaron Judge? Can you say the Yankees are already a lock to not only reach the World Series in 2018, but win it all? Well the best part about predicting a winner, is that there are no guarantees in any sport and the team still has to go out and compete. But what we can almost guarantee is that there will be a whole lot of balls flying out of ball parks every time the Yankees play.

In 2017, the reigning NL MVP hit 59 home runs and drove in 137 RBIs, but that was on a team that failed to reach the playoffs.  Actually in Stanton’s time with the Marlins since 2010, the team has not finished higher than second and never finished above .500 in the standings.

Men's Wool Suits

So now Stanton, who still has to approve the trade, will be heading to an organization that already has 27 World Series titles and came one game away from having a chance to add #28 during the 2017 postseason. But looking ahead to the 2018 season, with a new manager in Aaron Boone and a young squad already with postseason experience, the Yankees are poised for another playoff run that should take them to the World Series and possibly even a title.  That is something that Stanton or any player in his position can’t pass up on.

Regarding the trade, the parameters have not been announced yet.  It has been rumored that Starlin Castro may be in the mix, but definitely Derek Jeter, CEO of the Marlins, will be looking for some top prospects in return. The other big issue will be who will pay the chunk of Stanton’s remaining contract which doesn’t expire until the 2028 season and a whopping $295 million remaining on the books.

Stay tuned with more to come on this Blockbuster move.
